President Donald Trump was awarded the first FIFA Peace Prize at the World Cup final draw, which was hosted on Friday at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
The 2025 FIFA Peace Prize was presented to Trump at Friday’s event by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The award consisted of a certificate, a medal, and a trophy of a soccer ball held by golden hands.
“You definitely deserve the first FIFA peace prize for your action, for what you have obtained – in your way – but you obtained it in an incredible way,” Infantino told Trump. “And you can always count, Mr. President, on my support, on the support of the entire football community, or soccer community, to help you make peace and make the world prosper all over the world.”
The FIFA president also shared the award certificate that was presented to Trump, saying, “The FIFA Peace Prize is presented annually on behalf of the billions of football-loving people from around the world to a distinguished individual who exemplifies an unwavering commitment to advancing peace and unity throughout the world through their notable leadership and action.”
Infantino explained that the 2025 FIFA Peace Prize was awarded to the 47th president in recognition of Trump’s “exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”
Thanking Infantino for the award, Trump described the FIFA Peace Prize as “one of the great honors” of his life. “Beyond awards, Gianni and I were discussing this, we’ve saved millions and millions of lives,” Trump said.
Prior to receiving the award on Friday, Trump was asked about the anticipated FIFA Peace Prize award by a reporter. In his response, Trump emphasized saving lives over winning awards.
“I don’t need prizes. I need to save lives, and we’re saving a lot of lives. I’ve saved millions and millions of lives, and that’s really what I want to do,” Trump stated. “I also want to run a great country, and the United States right now is the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
Trump previously issued an executive order in March to create the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026. According to Fox News, the task force is led by President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
Fox News reported that the FIFA World Cup 2026 will start in June and will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
