A viral video on social media shows a man praying with President Donald Trump during the president’s stop at a restaurant ahead of his Tuesday rally in Iowa.
Prior to Tuesday’s rally kicking off the 2026 midterm elections and highlighting the Trump administration’s efforts to turn the economy around during his first year in office, the president visited the Machine Shed restaurant, according to Fox News. During Trump’s visit to the restaurant, an Iowa man asked the president if he could quickly pray for him.
The White House’s Rapid Response 47 shared a video of the man’s encounter and prayer with the president. In the video, the man can be heard asking Trump, “Can I pray for you real quick?” In response, the president told him, “Absolutely! Come on.”
In his prayer, the Iowa man asked God to give the president wisdom, protection, discernment, good health, and peace.
“Lord God, we give you thanks for this president,” the man said. “Thank you for your hand of protection on him. We pray for continued wisdom. We pray for discernment. We pray for health. We pray for more peace, Lord, and just pray for protection against the world, the devil, the flesh, and all principalities, Lord.”
At the end of the prayer, multiple “amens” can be heard from the crowd of people at the Machine Shed restaurant. Additionally, one individual can be heard saying, “Praise God,” following the prayer.
During a previous speech in Iowa, the president encouraged Americans to return to prayer ahead of the 250th anniversary of the country.
“As we prepare to celebrate two and a half centuries of freedom, I am inviting America’s great religious communities to pray for our nation and for our people. From the beginning, this has always been a country sustained and strengthened by prayer,” Trump said. “So important, if we bring religion back stronger, you’re going to see everything get better and better and better. You are going to see it get better and better. So, as we chart our course for the next 250 years, let us rededicate ourselves to one nation under God.”
