First Lady Melania Trump issued a call for Americans to “unify” as tensions continue to rise in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and across the country.

During a Tuesday morning interview on “Fox & Friends,” the first lady was asked what her message would be for Americans on both sides of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issue in Minnesota.

“We need to unify. I’m calling for unity,” Melania Trump said. “I know my husband, the president, had a great call yesterday with the governor and the mayor, and they’re working together to make it peaceful and without riots,”

“I’m against violence so, please, if you protest, protest in peace,” the first lady added. “And we need to unify in these times.”

Melania Trump’s call for Americans to pursue unity and peace comes as anti-ICE protesters and activists continue to disrupt ICE operations and cause chaos in Minneapolis and the surrounding region in Minnesota in opposition to President Donald Trump’s operations to remove criminal illegal immigrants from the Democrat-run sanctuary state. The first lady’s comments also come after two American civilians have been fatally shot by ICE and Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis in recent weeks.

Anti-ICE protests across the country were sparked on Saturday after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot 37-year-old Alex Pretti, an anti-ICE activist who allegedly confronted federal law enforcement officials while armed with a handgun and “violently resisted” when Border Patrol officials tried to disarm him during the encounter.

On Monday, Trump confirmed that he held discussions with Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) and Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey regarding the current situation in Minnesota. The president noted that “lots of progress is being made.”

During Tuesday’s interview on “Fox & Friends,” the first lady also addressed the massive winter storm that impacted millions of Americans across the country and led to multiple deaths, tens of thousands of flight delays and cancellations, and power outages across multiple states.

“I feel deep compassion for the people who are impacted by this storm. I know [the] federal government is working hard to provide assistance to all who need it,” Melania Trump stated. “And as Americans, we need to help each other and come together in these difficult times. I send them my strength and love and thinking of them.”
