Officials have confirmed that an illegal immigrant semi-truck driver who killed three people in a major crash on Tuesday on the Interstate 10 Freeway in San Bernardino County, California, was released into the country under former President Joe Biden’s administration.
According to Fox News, federal sources identified the suspect responsible for Tuesday’s fatal car crash as Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old illegal immigrant from India who was encountered in the El Centro Sector in California by Border Patrol agents in March of 2022 and released into the United States by the Biden administration.
Fox News reported that the 21-year-old illegal immigrant was released as part of the “alternatives to detention” policy launched under the Biden administration in 2022.
San Bernardino County records obtained by Newsweek show that Singh has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of drugs, and causing bodily injury.
According to Newsweek, Tuesday’s incident was caused by Singh’s semi-truck crashing into slow-moving traffic. The outlet noted that the crash caused an eight-vehicle pileup that included four commercial trucks. At least three people were killed in the crash, while multiple other victims were injured.
A dashcam video shared by Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics, on X, formerly Twitter, shows Singh’s red semi-truck barreling down the freeway and crashing into multiple cars, including another semi-truck. Rugg tweeted that in addition to the three individuals killed in the crash, four other victims were hospitalized.
Fox News reported that law enforcement officials claimed the illegal immigrant truck driver never used the brakes of the semi-truck to slow down or avoid hitting the cars. The outlet also noted that toxicology tests confirmed that the illegal immigrant was impaired by drugs while driving the vehicle on Tuesday.
According to Fox News, Department of Homeland Security sources confirmed Singh’s status as an illegal immigrant and confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer following the 21-year-old’s arrest.
