The Texas State House voted in favor of a new congressional map on Wednesday. The new congressional map is expected to help Republicans potentially gain five seats in Congress as the Republican Party tries to maintain control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections.

Fox News reported that the new congressional map was passed in a 88-52 vote on Wednesday after dozens of Democrat lawmakers fled the state earlier this month in an attempt to prevent Republican lawmakers from passing the redistricting measure. The outlet noted that Democrat lawmakers returned to the Texas State House on Monday after Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) called for a second special session, which allowed the congressional map to move forward in the state legislature.

In a Truth Social post late Wednesday night, Trump wrote, “Big WIN for the Great State of Texas!!! Everything Passed, on our way to FIVE more Congressional seats and saving your Rights, your Freedoms, and your Country, itself. Texas never lets us down.”

Trump explained that Florida, Indiana, and other Republican-led states could potentially follow Texas’ example and redraw their congressional maps to increase the number of Republican seats in Congress. The president suggested that more Republican seats would lead to a strong economy, Second Amendment protections, and reduced crime.

“It means Happiness and Peace,” Trump said. “But Republicans, there is one thing even better - STOP MAIL-IN VOTING, a total fraud that has no bounds. Also, go to PAPER BALLOTS before it is too late - At one tenth the cost, faster, and more reliable.”

Trump added, “If we do these TWO things, we will pick up 100 more seats, and the CROOKED game of politics is over. God Bless America!!!”

According to Fox News, the new congressional map passed by the Texas State House will now need to be passed by the Texas State Senate prior to being signed by Abbott.

Abbott celebrated the vote in the Texas State House on Wednesday, tweeting, “Congrats to the Texas House on passing the One Big Beautiful Map.” The Republican governor claimed that the “One Big Beautiful Map” will result in a “brighter shade of Red” for both Texas and Congress.

In response to the new congressional map in Texas, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) and other Democrat lawmakers in California have proposed a new map that would potentially add five Democrat seats in Congress to erase the Republican advantage in Texas, according to Fox News.
