New body camera footage shows Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents confronting the 55-year-old stalker of Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star Caitlin Clark, who plays for the Indiana Fever, earlier this year.
On Friday, TMZ released a body camera video showing Michael Lewis, a 55-year-old male from Denton, Texas, being confronted by FBI agents and Indianapolis police officers outside of his hotel room in Indianapolis on January 8. The FBI agents and local police officials confronted Lewis after he sent numerous sexually explicit and threatening messages to the Indiana Fever star on social media between December and January.
According to ESPN, court documents show that on one occasion, the 55-year-old messaged the WNBA star, saying, “Been driving around your house 3x a day. But don’t call the law just yet, the publc is allowed to drive by gainbridge..aka Caitlin's Fieldhouse.”
In a second message, Lewis wrote, “I’m getting tickets. I’m sitting behind the bench.” In another message, the 55-year-old stated, “They said I was sending threatening texts..but the only though on my mind was....CAITLIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNN.”
In the new body camera footage, FBI officials asked Lewis why he was in Indianapolis. The 55-year-old claimed that he was “just on vacation” and assured law enforcement officials that he had an “imaginary relationship” with Clark and that his social media posts and messages were an “imagination, fantasy type thing.”
“It’s just an imaginary relationship,” Lewis said. “It doesn’t involve any threats. Just a play fun thing.”
During the FBI’s confrontation with the 55-year-old, law enforcement officials warned Lewis not to continue sending threatening messages on social media; however, The Daily Caller reported that Lewis continued sharing threatening messages about Clark.
According to The Daily Caller, Lewis was arrested on January 12 for stalking and harassment. The 55-year-old later pleaded guilty to the charges in July and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. The outlet noted that Lewis was ordered to have no contact with Clark. Additionally, The Daily Caller reported that the 55-year-old has been banned by the Indiana Fever, the Indiana Pacers, the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and the Hinkle Fieldhouse.
In a statement obtained by OutKick, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said, “This resolution holds the defendant accountable for his threatening actions, the fear he caused and the disruption he created. He will now serve two and a half years in the Department of Corrections, allowing the victim to focus on what matters to her with peace of mind.”
