The House Oversight Committee issued subpoenas on Tuesday for former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Trump administration’s Justice Department, and multiple former officials regarding information on convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a Tuesday press release, The House Oversight Committee announced that Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued deposition subpoenas to Bill and Hillary Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Attorney General William Barr, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former Attorney General Merrick Garland, and former FBI Director Robert Mueller.
The House Oversight Committee also announced on Tuesday that Comer had issued a subpoena to the Justice Department for additional records related to the deceased child sex offender. Tuesday’s press release noted that the subpoenas come after the Oversight Subcommittee approved motions last month to “subpoena these records and compel witness testimony.”
In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Comer wrote, “While the Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell’s cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government’s enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell.”
Following Tuesday’s announcement, Trump’s Justice Department will have until August 19 to provide the House Oversight Committee with records concerning the Epstein case. Fox News reported that a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed that the department received the subpoena on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in a letter to Bill Clinton, Comer wrote, “By your own admission, you flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane four separate times in 2002 and 2003. During one of these trips, you were even pictured receiving a ‘massage’ from one of Mr. Epstein’s victims. It has also been claimed that you pressured Vanity Fair not to publish sextrafficking allegations against your ‘good friend’ Mr. Epstein, and there are conflicting reports about whether you ever visited Mr. Epstein’s island.”
Comer added, “You were also allegedly close to Ms. Ghislane Maxwell, an Epstein co-conspirator, and attended an intimate dinner with her in 2014, three years after public reports about her involvement in Mr. Epstein’s abuse of minors.”
While the House Oversight Committee also subpoenaed Maxwell Ghislaine, Epstein’s former associate, last month, the committee agreed last week that it would delay Ghislaine’s deposition until the Supreme Court considers a petition to overturn her sex trafficking conviction, according to The Hill.
