Sydney Sweeney revealed as a Republican - Trump reacts

President Donald Trump voiced his support for American actress Sydney Sweeney on Sunday after learning that she is reportedly a registered Republican.

Asked by a reporter on Sunday about Sweeney’s political affiliation, which was reported by The New York Post, Trump responded, “She’s a registered Republican? After the reporter confirmed that Sweeney was a registered Republican, Trump said, “Oh, now I love her ad.”

“You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s what I wouldn't have known, but I’m glad you told me that,” Trump added. “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”

According to voter records obtained by The New York Post, Sweeney has been registered since June of 2024 with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County. 

Sweeney’s political affiliation has been highlighted after the actress sparked a major debate on social media for being featured in American Eagle’s recent “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” advertisement campaign. 

In one of the advertisements, Sweeney can be seen putting on jeans while saying, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

In response to the video advertisements, left-wing activists have accused American Eagle and Sweeney of promoting “Nazi propaganda” and “white supremacy,” according to NBC News. Meanwhile, conservative activists have celebrated the video advertisements as a win over “woke” advertisements. 

In a Monday statement on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!”

In his Truth Social post, the president contrasted Sweeney’s American Eagle advertisement with the “Seriously WOKE advertisement” Jaguar recently released, Bud Lite’s “woke” advertisement two years ago, and the “Woke singer Taylor Swift.”

“The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be,” Trump added.

During an interview on the “Ruthless” podcast on Friday, Vice President J.D. Vance mocked Democrats for the backlash over American Eagle’s advertisements.

“My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi,” Vance said. “That appears to be their actual strategy.”

“It actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems, though, which is that you have like a normal, all-American, beautiful girl doing like a normal jeans ad, right?” Vance added. “They’re trying to sell jeans to kids in America, and they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing, and it’s like, you guys, did you learn NOTHING from the 2024 election?! I actually thought one of the lessons they might take is ‘We’re gonna be less crazy.’”
