At least two people are dead and eight others are injured after a shooter opened fire at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday. The gunman, who was wearing black at the time of the shooting, remains at large, authorities said.
President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he was briefed on the situation and the FBI is on the scene.
"God bless the victims and the families of the victims!" Trump wrote.
Vice President JD Vance also responded to the shooting, writing on X, "Terrible news out of Rhode Island this evening. We're all monitoring the situation and the FBI stands ready to do anything to help. We're all thinking of and praying for the victims tonight."
As of 8:30pm on Saturday, Brown University "continues to be in lockdown, and it is imperative that all members of our community remain sheltered in place," the Ivy League school posted on its website.
"This means keeping all doors locked and ensuring no movement across campus. The law enforcement response remains ongoing. Safety is the utmost and essential priority," it added.
This is breaking news that will be updated as more information becomes available.
