The Department of Homeland Security announced on Monday that an illegal immigrant truck driver killed three people while making an illegal U-turn in Florida last Tuesday. The Trump administration confirmed that the illegal immigrant obtained a commercial driver’s license in California, which is a sanctuary state.

In a Monday press release, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that it lodged an arrest detainer for Harjinder Singh after the illegal immigrant was arrested on three counts of vehicular homicide.

Citing the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the Department of Homeland Security said Singh tried making an illegal U-turn at an “Official Use Only” access point in Florida’s St. Lucie County on August 12. The department noted that a “brutal wreck” that killed “three innocent people” and left multiple Florida families “shattered” was caused by Singh blocking all the lanes on the highway with his truck while making the U-turn.

The Department of Homeland Security shared a video from Breaking911that shows “the exact moment Singh decided to break U.S. highway laws as he turned his truck into traffic.” The department claimed that Singh’s face “shows no shock or remorse for his actions or the lives he destroyed.”

In Monday’s press release, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin said, “Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California Department of Motor Vehicles issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License—this state of governance is asinine. How many more innocent people must die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public?”

McLaughlin also called for prayer for the families of the victims killed by the illegal immigrant truck driver and emphasized that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and the department are “working around the clock” to protect Americans and remove illegal immigrants from the United States.

In response to the Department of Homeland Security’s statement blaming California for allowing an illegal immigrant to obtain a commercial driver’s license, a Newsom spokesperson attempted to shift blame to the Trump administration.

“Why don’t you ask Trump about the driver’s federally issued work permit and when he entered this country? Spoiler alert: it was in 2018 under Trump — whoops,” the spokesperson told The Daily Caller. “He would have been eligible in any state. California followed federal law, something the President knows nothing about.”
