The alleged assassin who killed Charlie Kirk on Wednesday in Utah has been arrested, according to President Donald Trump.
“With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” Trump said Friday morning during an appearance on Fox and Friends.
“Everyone did a great job. We worked with the local police, the governor - everybody did a great job. Getting somebody that you start off with absolutely nothing…we started off with a clip that made him look like an ant. [The clip] was almost useless. We just saw somebody [on the roof],” Trump continued. “So much work has been done over the last two-and-a-half days. You know, it's amazing, actually, when you start off with that and all of a sudden you get lucky or talent, or whatever it is. But yeah, we're, I think we're in great shape. He's in custody."
Trump said someone close to the suspect turned him in.
Escorted by Vice President JD Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, and Kirk’s widow Erika, Charlie Kirk’s body was flown to his home in Phoenix, Arizona, on Air Force Two on Thursday.
“I was in a meeting in the West Wing when those group chats started lighting up with people telling Charlie they were praying for him. And that's how I learned the news that my friend had been shot. I prayed a lot over the next hour, as first good news and then bad trickled in,” Vance wrote on X. “God didn't answer those prayers, and that's OK. He had other plans. And now that Charlie is in heaven, I'll ask him to talk to big man directly on behalf of his family, his friends, and the country he loved so dearly.”
“You ran a good race, my friend,” Vance added. “We've got it from here.”
Kirk’s assassination has been felt worldwide, exemplified by Phoenix Air Traffic Control, which welcomed Kirk back to his home state with a touching message: “Welcome home, Charlie. You didn’t deserve it… May God bless your family.”
