President Donald Trump’s stance on cryptocurrency has evolved dramatically, shifting from skepticism to enthusiastic support by 2025.
During his first presidency, Trump expressed concerns about digital currencies; however, his views have since changed. As recently as June 2025, the president urged lawmakers in the House to move “LIGHTNING FAST” to pass historic legislation regulating payment stablecoins, a type of cryptocurrency.
“The Senate just passed an incredible Bill that is going to make America the UNDISPUTED Leader in Digital Assets — Nobody will do it better, it is pure GENIUS!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Digital Assets are the future, and our Nation is going to own it,” he continued. “We are talking about MASSIVE Investment, and Big Innovation. The House will hopefully move LIGHTNING FAST, and pass a ‘clean’ GENIUS Act.”
“Get it to my desk, ASAP — NO DELAYS, NO ADD ONS,” Trump added. “This is American Brilliance at its best, and we are going to show the World how to WIN with Digital Assets like never before!”
In March 2025, President Trump established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile in order to position the U.S. “as a leader among nations in government digital asset strategy.”
The move came after President Trump signed an Executive Order during his first week in office promoting digitall assets.
“The digital asset industry plays a crucial role in innovation and economic development in the United States, as well as our Nation’s international leadership,” the order states. “It is therefore the policy of my Administration to support the responsible growth and use of digital assets, blockchain technology, and related technologies across all sectors of the economy.”
During his 2024 campaign, Trump positioned himself as a pro-crypto advocate, promising to make the U.S. the “crypto capital of the world.”
Trump’s current stance reflects a strategic pivot, aiming to reshape America’s financial landscape through cryptocurrency.
