Trump defunds NPR, PBS

President Donald Trump cut funding to PBS and NPR in a new executive order slamming the media organizations for their left-wing bias.

According to the White House, both PBS and NPR receive tens of millions of taxpayer dollars every year. Trump’s new order cuts federal funding to both organizations “to the maximum extent allowed by law.”

“NPR and PBS have fueled partisanship and left-wing propaganda with taxpayer dollars, which is highly inappropriate and an improper use of taxpayers’ money, as President Trump has stated,” the White House explained.

To cut indirect funding, the order also blocks local public radio and television stations that receive funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) from using taxpayer money to support PBS and NPR.

Trump’s order “directs all federal agencies to terminate any direct or indirect funding to NPR and PBS” and check existing grants and contracts for compliance.

The CPB was established in 1967 to ensure access to non-commercial, educational, and cultural programming that fostered diverse, high-quality content that served the public interest. The media landscape has changed dramatically in 58 years, offering diverse options that make government-funded media outdated and unnecessary, the Trump administration argued.

The CPB is legally required to be “nonpolitical [in] nature” and not “contribute to or otherwise support any political party,” but both PBS and NPR contribute to the Democrat Party and left-wing political causes.

The White House noted that “an NPR editor found that registered Democrats outnumbered Republicans 87 to zero in the newsroom’s editorial positions” and “NPR’s President and CEO admitted that she regards ‘truth’ as a harmful ‘distraction’ from NPR’s objectives.”

NPR’s left-wing bias is made obvious in numerous ways, including its avoidance of the term “biological sex” when addressing transgender issues, stories defending looting, and its dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices.

“Research shows that ‘congressional Republicans faced 85% negative coverage, compared to 54% positive coverage of congressional Democrats,’ on PBS’s flagship news program. Over a six-month period, PBS News Hour used versions of the term ‘far-right’ 162 times, but ‘far-left’ only 6 times,” the White House said.

“No media outlet has a Constitutional right to taxpayer subsidized operations, and it’s highly inappropriate for taxpayers to be forced to subsidize biased, partisan content,” it added.

President Trump’s bold push to defund NPR and PBS is a fearless stand to stop taxpayers’ hard-earned money from being funneled into liberal propaganda machines. This move prioritizes the needs of everyday Americans, redirecting funds to projects that truly Make America Great Again.
